Allied Acts

The following Acts regulate the goods imported in India. This Acts cover all medicines for internal or external use of human beings or animals and all substances intended to be used for or in the diagnosis, treatment, prevention of any disease or disorder in human beings or animals including their preparations are subject to prior NOC from the Asstt. Drug Controller for release of the imported goods.

Powers of Customs Officers : The law for the time being in force relating to sea Customs and to goods, the import of which is prohibited by Section of 18 of the Sea Customs Act, 1878 (8 of 1878) shall, subject to the provisions of Section 13 of this Act, apply in respect of drugs (and cosmetics) the import of which is prohibited under this chapter, and officers of Customs and officers empowered under this Act to perform the duties imposed thereby on a Customs Collector and other officers of Customs, shall have the same powers in respect of such drugs (and cosmetics) as they have for the time being in respect of such goods as aforesaid.

FOOD SAFETY AND STANDARDS AUTHORITY OF INDIA

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has been established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 as a statutory body for laying down science based standards for articles of food and for regulating manufacturing, processing, storage, distribution, sale and import of food so as to ensure and availability safe and wholesome food for human consumption including imported goods.

ACTS

• Convention of International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna

This is an international agreement which aims to protect endangered species by regulating and restricting the trade in certain species.

TEXTILE COMMITTEE

These laboratories are established under the Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India to regulate the import of textile items. The textile laboratory and research centre situated at P. Balu Road, Prabhadevi Chowk, Prabhadevi, Mumbai – 400 025 has been specified for the test of RSS for the goods imported at ACC, Sahar.

ACTS

• The laboratory works to check the presence of dyes prohibited by the Govt. of India under Section 6 (2) (D) of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 (29 of 1986) read with Rule 13 of the Environment (Protection) Rules, 1986 vide Notifications S.O. 108 (E) dated 30th January, 1990 and S. O. 243(E) dated 26th March, 1997.
